Cumberland adopts transgender policy for schools
Marcia Green, The Valley Breeze - 25 March 2016
"CUMBERLAND – Without a word of objection Thursday evening, the Cumberland school district became the first in Rhode Island to adopt a far-reaching policy designed to protect transgender and gender non-specific students of all all ages.
School Committee member Mark Fiorillo, who headed up the subcommittee that worked on the language, commented, "Most of the time this is a pretty thankless job. But this isn't thankless and I'm gratified to know we're doing good work."
He noted the policy would be reviewed in December to see how it's working."
